Once upon a time, there was a king with 4 wives. One day, the king got sick and was on his deathbed. Afraid of being in the afterlife alone, he approached his 4th wife which he loved the most, he bought her diamonds, gold and expensive clothing, sat her down and asked her, “ Would you die with me and go to the afterlife?”

The 4th wife replied, “I’m sorry I can’t do that” and walked away.

The king was very disheartened. He kept quiet as he watched his 4th wife walked away.

He also loved his third wife. He was very proud of his third wife and would often show her off to neighbouring kingdoms. He brought her out the most.

So he called on his 3rd wife and asked her “ Would you die with me and go to the afterlife?” The 3rd wife replied “I love my life too much, and I am sorry I will not go with you. When you die, I am going to remarry.”

That broke the king’s heart. He was furious but more broken-hearted. Not having any energy left for his anger, he turned his back on her while he laid on his bed. The 3rd wife walked out of his room.

The second wife had always been there for him in his times of need. She was his comfort-zone and provided him with the most emotional support. With much confidence that she would follow him, he called for his 2nd wife and asked her, “Would you die with me and go to the afterlife?”

The 2nd wife replied, “I love you, but I am sorry I can’t help you out this time. However, I can arrange your funeral and be there with you every step of the way.”

Before he could react to her reply, a voice then called out saying “I will go with you to the afterlife. I will follow you wherever you go.”

The king looked over his 2nd wife’s shoulder, and it was his 1st wife. This was the wife that he took cared of the least. He felt embarrassed and said, “I’m sorry I should have taken more care of you and given you more attention when I was alive.”

Moral of the story — We all have 4 wives.

The 4th wife represents our body.

We spend all our money on our body, buying beauty products, branded clothes and jewellery. We often pay for gym memberships, organic and premium quality foods. Not that it is wrong, but when we die, it does not follow us.

The 3rd wife represents our possessions.

We also spend our money and time chasing for the latest devices, cars, houses, money, etc., for our possession. We work so hard to get these items that actually don’t mean anything. They become one of our biggest goals and motivation in life, even though it does not follow us when we die. It will be given to other people and divided, just like the third wife remarrying.

The 2nd wife represents our friends and family.

We love our parents, our siblings and our kids. We spend much time with them and buy them gifts whenever we see something that reminds us of them while we are out. Again, not that it is wrong; in fact, we should still shower them love just because they are family. But when we die, the furthest they can go is to our funeral.

The 1st wife represents our soul.

We often neglect our soul. We often neglect our time with ourselves. In fact, we also often do not listen to what we are telling ourselves. In the midst of this pandemic and the digital age, we are often consumed by everything around us but ourselves. We are living in an age where we have been more unaware and unattentive to our soul. Spend more time with your soul. I am sure you have been neglecting it.

Wake up, meditate, pray and breathe.

Tomorrow will be a better day.
